Well, it's official - somewhere along the line, I became a sucker for a beautiful dress. (I think it has something to do with being the youngest of four girls, and wearing a lot of hand-me-downs as a child, none of them particularly flattering, either!)
Last summer, I got the chance to attend a star-studded event (well, stars of the romance writing world, anyway, with stars like Nora Roberts ) because I was up for a RITA, a major award within the industry. Not only did I win the RITA for Best First Book, I got to wear the most beautiful formal gown I'd ever owned, a gorgeous, full-length gold creation that I will probably never wear again! (I mean seriously, where am I going to wear it?)
Anyway, I got a phone call last week from Romance Writers of America, asking if this year, as last year's award recipient, I'd present the RITA award for Best First Book during the RWA annual convention in Washington, DC.
It's quite an honor, but I will be completely honest and tell you that my very first thought was, "YES! I get to wear another beautiful dress!" LOL
And so the hunt begins. I haven't been shopping in the stores yet, but I've been scouting around online, and so far my favorite is this black, one-shoulder gown with a flowy skirt.
Any thoughts?

You could always throw it on to pick up the mail, or whenever running errands around town. Aw c'mon! You're an award winning author now. It's okay to be eccentric. :)
The dress is lovely, btw. Does it come in red?
I agree with Catie. In fact, wear it when you vacuum. C'mon, you know you want to! And remember, this will help justify buying that beautiful black dress, which you would look GREAT IN, by the way. Although the gold one from last year looked spectacular on you as well.

My second favorite color choice! Seriously, I'm thinkin' it's either black or red this year, and nothing in between!
I guess I could wear the gold one to my next booksigning... maybe with a tiara and a magic wand, just because I CAN! LOL

Vacuum? Hmm.. I seem to be unfamiliar with this word. :-)
Thanks for the compliment, Zita! I was a bit worried about my cleavage in the gold one, but my husband assured me it was fine. "Fine!" he said. "Just fine!" I mean, he had no ulterior motives or anything, so I went with it. *tee-hee*
*snortling* Yes! Yes to the tiara too! Then you can save all three to wear while performing that entirely foreign task of which none of us have ever heard that Zita mentioned. :D
A presenter..!! How awesome..!! One must have a killer dress. Love this one in black, although red would be striking.
Not going this year. I'll see you next year in Nashville.
Hi, Olivia! Well, I wasn't planning on going this year either, until the dress issue came up. :-) And yes, how often do you get a chance to be a presenter at something like the RITAs?
I'm looking forward to Nashville - that's where Bob was born, you know, so he'll be with me on that trip, but not the DC one.
definitely go with the black...red would be too predictable....and the one shoulder...well, what makes more of a statement than that?? Now, if you wanted to add F me stupid red sparkly pumps and jeweled handbag, well, that would be stunning on you..... Plus, you could loan it all to me later... Signed, just looking after ya, sis.....
